42 Extrusion International 1/2020 RECYCLING, COMMINUTION OF PLASTICS from Hosokawa Alpine, granulator fineness values are achieved in just one step. The joint drive makes the size reduction far more energy-effi- cient”, says Josef Zöttl, creative mind and Senior Sales Manager in the Re- cycling and Granulators Division of Hosokawa Alpine’s process technol- ogy business segment. The unique factor: the machine has a vertically arranged rotor with a top-mounted shredder and the granulator section underneath. Unbeatable flexibility: The ma- chine’s concept is quite simple: basi- cally, shredder and granulator are combined to formone machine. With the aid of an intake unit, the feed material is automatically dosed and charged to the shredder-granulator combi. The feed rate can be indi- vidually adjusted to suit the problem specification. After passing through the shredder section, the pre-commi- nuted material falls into the granula- tor section and is comminuted there to granulator fineness. The Polyplex is especially suitable for in-house re- cycling. Thanks to its unique design, different plastic parts such as reject housings, sprues and purgings can be charged together. The vertical design of the mill also brings advantages when cleaning, enabling extremely easy access to the rotor and cutting knives. This guarantees not only fast cleaning but also significantly reduc- es downtime. Reliable and high-performance recycling of plastic waste The efficient recycling of production waste within the framework of a closed material circuit is becoming in- creasingly important. Hosokawa Al- pine sets standards here thanks to its decades of experience. The Rotoplex model from the granulator product line has proven itself to be particu- larly successful for the reliable size reduction of all kinds and shapes of plastic waste. This classic granulator from Hosokawa Alpine is constantly refined and improved and makes its mark even in the current seventh generation by virtue of its reliability and top performance. High cutting performance at low energy consumption: The high-per- formance granulator is characterised by its robust design in high-grade spheroidal graphite cast iron in GGG 40 quality, the positive connection of the stator knives as well as a solid and efficient cast rotor. “Besides a sharp cut, our patented cross-scissor-cut ro- tor guarantees a verifiably reduced energy consumption of as much as 20 per cent compared with convention- al cutting techniques,” underlines Bernd Kneisl. Above all when high cutting performance is called for, the Rotoplex granulator – as for exam- ple the exhibited 50/80 Ro – shows its true strength. Dependent on the material and screen perforations, the granulator achieves throughput rates of up to 1000 kg/h. Intelligent machine design: Over and above the high cutting power, the Rotoplex 50/80 Ro has numer- ous other design features which guarantee immediate benefits to us- ers. Once the top section has been opened, the cutting chamber is easy to access. Which means that cleaning procedures as well as knife or screen exchange are quick and uncompli- cated. This serves to prevent long pe- riods of downtime. In addition, the special shaft bearing prevents pen- etration of the product into the bear- ing as well as the ingress of excess lu- bricant into the cutting chamber.
