It was because of those qualities that the customer turned to Maag once again when upgrading a much larger plant. At a targeted throughput rate of up to 2000 kg/h, the maximum pressure loss should not exceed 50 bar. Again, leakage-free production was a re- quirement to prevent material from leaking, expanding in place, and so contaminating the production space and incurring high cleaning costs. Other requirements includ- ed that the filter unit should be quickly replaceable and, for cost reasons, should be reusable.” Newly developed cartridge filter meets high demands Maag also proposed the use of a static cartridge filter sys- tem to cope with the demanding operating conditions, since the typical design of such a system inherently ful- filled the basic requirements. As the existing SFS-1-1300, featuring only one filter cartridge, was not designed for the high specified throughput, a new design was re- quired. The result of this upscaling was the SFS-3-3000 cartridge filter system (picture 2), featuring three filter cartridges (ø 75 mm, 415 mm length, flowing through from outside to inside), in a horizontal orientation with a total filter surface area of approximately 3000 mm². Matched to the die gap, which can vary between 1.8 mm and 2 mm, the standard filter fineness is 800 μm, though Maag supplied a 600 μm exchange kit for test purposes.
