Extrusion International USA 3-2021

29 Extrusion International 3/2021 „ SI Group announced the decision to increase tacki fi er resin capacity at its Lote, India, manufacturing site by an expected 75%. The expansion will propel the site to become a regional hub for best-in-class tacki fi er resin production and technol- ogy. The investment addresses an increasing demand for Novolac tacki fi ers in one of our core regions. The expansion is slated for completion in two phases. The fi rst phase will be complet- ed by the end of 2021 and the second phase will commercial- ize in the latter half of 2022. “We have decided to grow capacity as another step forward in demonstrating our commitment to supporting our customers’ growth and positioning ourselves as a leader in specialty addi- tives,” said Robert Kaiser, Vice President - Rubber & Adhesives Tackifier Capacity Expansion in India Announced SI Group www.siigroup.com Solutions at SI Group. “This expansionwill not only bene fi t the region’s supply, but it will also provide superior solutions at the highest reliability to our customers globally.” “This investment positions SI Group to supply regional growth and meet strong forecasts within the Indian tires & automo- bile sector,” stated Suresh Kalra, Vice President & Managing Director India at SI Group. He further said that these invest- ments will strengthen the position of our customers and In- dia’s Rubber Industry moving forward. This expansion follows the company’s previous announce- ments to also expand resin capacity in Nanjing, China, and Bethune, France. „ UL has recognized four new Halguard® low-smoke, fl ame retardant jacketing compounds as “halogen-free”, it was an- nounced by Teknor Apex Company. The compounds include new-generation EVA-based products with an enhanced bal- ance of properties, and highly fl exible TPE-based products that exhibit excellent oil and sunlight resistance. The assessment of halogen content was conducted in accor- dance with UL 2885 standard for the presence of fl uorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br) and iodine (I) at a maximum indi- vidual limit of 1,000 ppm. With the four new grades, there are now fi fteen Halguard low-smoke, halogen-free fl ame retardant (LS-HFFR) compounds with UL AATJ2 component recognition as Halogen-free. The new compounds, all with UL 94 fl ame ratings of V-0, are of two types: • EVA-based compounds for control, data, and transit ca- bles. Halguard grades 58240 and 58242 provide high levels of fl ame retardance, resistance to heat shock and heat de- formation, and ease of processing – the latter translating into increased throughput. The compounds enable cables to comply with UL 1685-FT4/IEEE 1202 standards for vertical tray cable and the UL 1666 standard for riser cable. Other ap- plications include fi ber optic data cables and cables used in transit infrastructure, as in the case of tunnels. • Highly fl exible, oil- and sunlight-resistant TPE-based com- pounds. Incorporating elastomers, these two products com- ply with UL 62 and UL 758 standards for fl exible cord and appliance wire, respectively. Halguard E 59001 exhibits 80% and 90% retention of tensile strength and elongation at break, respectively, upon immersion in IRM 902 oil for seven days at 60 °C. Halguard E 59002 retains 90% and 95% of ten- sile strength and elongation at break upon exposure for 720 hours in a weatherometer. “The Halguard LS-HFFR product line provides properties to meet a wide range of applications, and the growing list of grades with ‘halogen-free’ assessments by UL further ex- pands options for customers,” said David Braun, wire and ca- ble industry manager for the Vinyl Division of Teknor Apex. “We will continue to develop Halguard compounds which can comply with this UL assessment in order to provide cus- tomers with readily available component recognition, which enables them to accelerate speed to market for their prod- ucts. Halguard LS-HFFR compounds are available worldwide.
