Extrusion 1-2022

48 kompakt Extrusion 1/2022 create a hybrid design that incorporates the benefits of layer overlapping, while reducing unnecessary complexity and making the technology more cost-afford- able for customers. This was achieved by overlapping layers in each semi-deflector, using a single cone. The highly efficient design of the 800 Series Hybrid reduces cost and size, as opposed to other me- thods of overlapping layers. Essential benefits of the 800 Series Hybrid include eliminating weld lines in materi- als through patented overlapping tech- nology, producing a more consistent finished product; reduced sensitivity to changes in viscosity; reduced sensitivity to changes in line speed; myriad material and multi-layer application possibilities; works in all tubing and jacketing applica- tions with a wide range of materials; low residence time; compact design and a low tolerance stack-up error factor, all re- sulting in improved concentricity. The 800 Series Hybrid extrusion tool greatly reduces stagnation, because over- ➠ Guill Tool & Engineering www.guill.com Guill announced the introduction of a new version of its popular 800 series, known as 800 Series Hybrid. In some ex- trusion applications that utilize cross- heads and inlines, layers of the exact same material are applied multiple times, using a single die. This method is used to reduce the propensity for errors caused by gels breaking through a thin wall, weld lines, inconsistent wall thickness, plus ma- terial and process variations. Additional errors include difficult-to-process materi- als and demanding applications where there is zero fault tolerance. Seeking to design the next generation multi-layer die to overcome these chal- lenges, the engineers at Guill looked for a way to incorporate this technology into an updated version of the 800 Series. This led to the creation of the 800 Series Hy- brid. The inherent benefits of the 800 Se- ries are retained, including compact design, low residence time and a com- mon deflector bore that eliminates toler- ance stack up. The challenge was to New 800 Series Hybrid Extrusion Tooling announced lapping layers are more inherently bal- anced than single layers and also because each semi-deflector is “tuned to flush.” Conventional deflectors must simultane- ously achieve a balance between flushing, balancing and eliminating the weld line. There is less difference between the slow- est moving material and the fastest mov- ing material in the deflector channels, thus making the viscosity more consistent in the deflector. kets. This new nanolayered film repre- sents the first major materials improve- ment for solid-state film capacitors in decades. Davis-Standard collaborated with Peak Nano’s team to validate the process and tailor cast film machinery based on the company’s unique product requirements. “We have grown with Davis-Standard throug- hout this endeavor,” said Mike Hus, Peak Nano Film’s senior vice president of engineer- ing. “Davis-Standard’s technical expertise en- abled us to collaborate on new processes and Peak Nano Films, a U.S.-based nano- technology leader, recently commission- ed a Davis-Standard cast film line for processing a breakthrough dielectric film for capacitor applications. With this new equipment, Peak Nano Films has moved into production to serve automotive, mi- litary, electrical grid, and industrial mar- Line for Innovative Capacitor Films Installed define machinery features prior to pur- chase. We value Davis-Standard’s experi- ence and systems-oriented approach in helping make this film a reality.” Peak Nano Films’ modern dielectric film structure overcomes current technology challenges to provide longer capacitor life, higher temperature resistance, greater breakdown strength, and a smal- ler footprint for capacitor designs. This in- cludes two to four times the energy storage and temperatures up to 150 de- grees Celsius. As a result, capacitor pro- ducers benefit from additional design freedom and the potential for reducing systems costs for end-users. According to Chris Oseredczuk, senior pro- duction engineer at Peak Nano Films, the Davis-Standard line is performing well. “We are highly satisfied with the line’s per- formance and Davis-Standard’s ongoing support. Their sales, technical, parts, and field service teams have provided a timely Peak Nano, film on turret winder
