29 Extrusion International 4/2025 Polystyrene Recycling Alliance Partners with Mexican Plastics Pact to promote High-Impact Polystyrene Circularity The Polystyrene Recycling Alliance (PSRA), a lead- ing North American coalition developing innovative polystyrene recycling solutions, announced a strategic collaboration with the Mexican Plastics Pact (PPMX) to create the conditions needed for collecting and re- cycling high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) dairy packaging throughout central Mexico. This pioneering initiative represents a coordinated ef- fort to establish economically viable circular systems for polystyrene materials, addressing post-consumer recov- ery gaps while demonstrating how HIPS, in particular, can be effectively integrated into aligned collection, processing, and end-market frameworks. The partnership brings together leading consumer brands, including Danone, Lala, and Yakult, alongside specialized recycling networks, such as Ecolana and Gru- po Mexico Recicla, to create an integrated value chain that transforms discarded dairy containers into high- quality recycled resin for new applications. Through targeted support from PSRA, the initiative will establish collection operations spanning Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Querétaro, and Puebla, channeling recovered HIPS through Resirene’s U.S. Food and Drug Administra- tion (FDA)-compliant recycling processing facility. What distinguishes this collaboration is its market- driven approach to understand and strengthen recovery The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Announced as an Of cial Partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026 ANSI has been selected as an of cial partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026, an annual initiative highlighting the essential role that engineers and engineering play around the world. ANSI brings together industry, government, aca- demia, and other stakeholders to shape standards that make technologies safer, more reliable, and interoper- able. Representing the United States in leading interna- tional standards bodies, ANSI helps advance sustainable development on a global scale. “World Engineering Day is a powerful reminder that the solutions to our greatest global challenges depend on collaboration across borders, disciplines, and sec- tors,” said ANSI president and CEO Dr. Laurie E. Locas- cio. “Engineering and standards go hand-in-hand, and both are essential to building a sustainable future. ANSI is proud to be an of cial partner for WED 2026, and we look forward to highlighting how standards help turn engineering innovation into real-world impact.” World Engineering Day launched in Jakarta, Indone- sia, on 4 March 2026, marking the start of a year-long campaign of events, lms, features and news. The focus of this year’s theme is “Smart engineering for a sustain- able future through innovation and digitalisation.” An of cial International Day, as proclaimed by UNES - CO, WED is operated by the World Federation of En- gineering Organisations (WFEO), the global body that spans members from more than 100 countries and rep- resents over 30 million engineers worldwide. WED 2026 provides governments, UN-associated or- ganisations, policymakers, educators and leaders in the public and private sectors with the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of engineering. All cam- paign content is produced by SJH Studios – the of cial media partner and broadcaster for WED – and hosted on the of cial WED website at www.worldengineering - day.net. Seng-Chuan Tan, President of the WFEO, says: “World Engineering Day brings together engineers, govern- ments, academia, industries and individuals to exchange ideas, drive innovation and take meaningful action. Col- laboration is essential – we must work together to trans- form innovative ideas into real-world impact. When we bring together different voices, perspectives and exper- tise, we create stronger, more sustainable solutions.” Stephen Van Der Merwe, SJH Group Director, Licens- ing, Legal and Contracts, says: “ANSI is committed to international standardisation for global progress, and we’re thrilled to have them on board as an of cial part - ner for this year’s World Engineering Day campaign.” https://worldengineeringday.net/ The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced as an of cial partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026
