34 Extrusion International 4/2025 34 INDUSTRY NEWS Statement as INC-5.2 Negotiations Commence Released As delegates from around the world gathered in Geneva for the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5.2) on a global plastics treaty, the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) is urging negotiators to stay focused on the original goal of keeping plastic out of the environment: “As INC-5.2 begins in Geneva, the U.S. plastics industry remains committed to a global agreement focused on the original purpose of these discussions: keeping plastic out of the environment – especially our oceans,” said Matt Seaholm, President and CEO of the Plastics Industry Association. “Our oceans have no borders, which is why this must be a truly global effort. The plastics industry has been engaged from the start of these negotiations, and our companies are investing billions in sustainability, recycling infrastructure, advanced technolo - gies, and circular design to keep materials in use and out of the en- vironment. What’s needed now is a practical agreement that builds on this progress and enables continued innovation, manufacturing, and job creation. The path forward must focus on scaling modern recycling systems, accelerating new technolo - gies, and supporting private-sector solutions. Our industry is ready to lead and is dedicated to being part of a workable solution.” New Staff Additions Announced The Plastics Industry Association an- nounced several newadditions across the PLASTICS team, reinforcing the association’s ongoing commitment to protect the industry, promote con - tinued investment in innovation and sustainability, and advocate for the more than one million workers across the plastics supply chain.
